First Trip

Thursday was our first trip of the semester.  Jane, Matt, Seton, Allegra, Anne, and I were off to Barcelona, Spain.  I was really excited to escape the rainy weather and get to sunny, 65 degrees!

The day was mainly full of traveling.  Jane, Seton, and Matt headed out on an earlier flight, so, Allegra, Anne, and I had a little more time in Cork to get ready for the long day.  We took a bus that left Cork at noon, getting us to the airport at 3:30, just in time for our 5:20 flight.  This was Anne and Allegra's first time on the Aircoach bus, so they were getting a chance to see what my weekends are like in Ireland.  I did not miss this bus, but, we got through it (with lots of sleeping).  The flight was about two and a half hours, getting us to Spain a little after 8 PM.  This is early in Spanish time, little did we know we would have a very long night ahead of us.

We got to our hostel, Be Mar, which ended up being really great, and in an awesome location.  Our first stop was looking for margaritas and tapas.  We were starving and ready to experience the true Spanish cuisine!  Anne, Allegra, and I found a great restaurant right near the hostel, La Mon Roe.  Each of us got tapas, I had chorizo sausages, we shared a homemade hummus plate, and margaritas.  The night was off to a great start, at a mere 10:30 PM...

After dinner, we headed to an apartment in Barcelona where a number of Holy Cross students were staying for a few weeks.  About ten kids that are not studying abroad this year are taking a January class in Barcelona, and had a big get together before going out.  There were so many HC kids there, probably about twenty!  It was really fun seeing everyone, and getting to know a lot of kids I did not usually hang out with back at Holy Cross.  This is one of the things I really love about studying abroad.  New friends groups are made at HC, and in everyone's various countries, so that when we return senior year, everyone hangs out, no matter what your friend group is.  It was a great sneak peak as to what next year will be.

The crew then headed to a bar called Bling Bling.  We supposedly had VIP access here, according to one of the HC kids studying in Barcelona, so everyone was very excited.  The bar was massive, and shockingly enough , we made it into VIP.  It was a great night, and we did not get home until 5 AM!!!  This is definitely the Spain culture, and I do not know how people do it.  I would not be able to survive here on a daily basis!

Saturday, we were off to Montserrat!  Be back soon!

XO,

Caitlin
